honestly it’s kind of upsetting how much of the autism experience is just being shamed out expressing yourself in any way that’s normal for you and learning to keep everything to yourself so you’re not shamed for being weird and then being shamed for being so quiet because it’s also weird to be quiet but if you tell this to anyone else they’ll say “why do you care so much what people think” and that’s when the ancient ape part of your brain gets ready to beat them to death
feels amazing actually to love gdt’s frankenstein having studied the book at degree level and knowing that a good adaptation can include nuance and changes that support the original text while also knowing that i don’t need to pretentiously proclaim ‘um this wasn’t included so film bad actually’
i understand that some book fans have problems with gdt’s frankenstein but i literally couldn’t care less about the diversions from the book when the public perception of this story has been defined by the fuckass 1931 movie for the past 90 years (love u boris karloff but that movie just pisses me off) which barely even attempts to be faithful to the book. like this is already leagues above that and i’ll take it if it means the general public will stop thinking about the creature as this thoughtless killing machine
my haters will try to tell you i teared up during frankenstein. they will try to tell you i cried when the old man told the creature not to be scared. they will be so convincing when they say that the creature bringing the man’s hand up to pat him on the head sent me over the edge.
